I produced all the beats for my beat tape July while living in Cayo Hueso, La Habana, Cuba, in the month of July, 2013. Due to a lack of access to equipment and instruments, July was produced primarily using samples in Logic Pro, with a some parts played on the Macbook QWERTY keyboard. The music is inspired by my life and experiences while living under a communist dictatorship, as well as by the struggles of some of my closest friends in Habana. Kalí’s Dilemma and Redi’s Dilemma were inspired by a very complicated and unfortunate love triangle between three friends (coming soon: Teresa’s Dilemma). Fundido is about the feeling of being depressed, anxious, or generally sad or upset about something. Brendaaaaaaaa is dedicated to a Cuban woman that I had a crush on for months. Hint: if you are having a rough day, throw on You Make Me So Very Happy. It may help.
